I’m not a morning person. But I love mornings.
Make sense? No? Let me explain…
Oh, mornings. I’m one of those people who needs some quiet time to start the day. This is precisely because I’m not a morning person. Want to have a conversation with me first thing in the AM? Please don’t. Just, shhhhhhhh.
I love my morning quiet time. Sitting with my coffee, I get to drink it while its still hot (a luxury that any other moms surely understand). No one is yelling at me, and even the dog is still asleep.
It’s a great opportunity for me to do my Bible study. No interruptions. I need that time with God in the morning to get prepared for the day. If I don’t, then it always feels like my day starts out rough.
Sitting on the deck, with a hot coffee and my Bible, watching the sunrise and the animals wake up – how much more lovely could a morning be?
The little extras
When I get up early, I have the chance to get a few household tasks started. Throw some laundry in, wipe down the bathroom, put some dough in the breadmaker, whatever it may be.
Not only does this cut down on the amount that I have to juggle while the kiddos are awake, but it also gives me more time to play with them instead of just find something to occupy them while I work. I always try to find more time to engage with the kids. Read together, play outside together, build towers, do crafts. Never do I want to look back and think “Gosh, I wish I would have played with them more and done less housework.”
Sleeping in? Naw.
Sometimes I am tempted to sleep in. After all, more sleep means feeling more rested and better able to embrace the days tasks right? Not for me.
Sleeping in for me means that I wake up the same time as the kids. I don’t get my morning quiet time. No hot coffee. No Bible study. No quiet prayer time. No jumpstart to the days tasks.
This usually equals a grumpy me.
I love mornings
So no, I’m not a morning person per se. Getting out of bed is always a struggle. However, I love the quiet, the opportunity to be with God, and the chance to get caught up a little so I can enjoy my day with the kids. It’s worth it.
Are you a morning person? Or just love a little peace and quiet like me?
