I’ve never been one for living in the city. I find it overstimulating, and I usually feel exhausted by the time I leave. The privacy and solitude of country life serves us well.
That’s not to say it’s always quiet and serene though! The pounding of fence posts, squealing of pigs, yipping of coyotes, crowing of roosters, noisy baa-ing of our sheep, gunshots, ATVs and snowmobiles all contribute to the symphony of the country. Music to my ears!
However, it is not always an easy life. There’s a lot of arduous work, late nights and early mornings. You race against the seasons and battle with the weather. You send up prayers for rain and then for sun. Your animals get sick, your plants get bugs, and you’ve just found cougar tracks in the back field where the sheep and goats are.
It’s a challenge every single day. The rewards however, are more beautiful and gratifying than anything you will know.
